Detroit was phenomenal last night! Robbie and I ruled, but so did Kalimah and Johnny, and a host of other Detroit slammers. There must’ve been 300+ people in the beautiful Max Fisher wing of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra – and Savion Glover was dancing right next door! If you have not been to the Detroit Slam, you really need to because it’s pretty freek’n grand: http://www.noiramerica.com/main-culture/PNPS/picnap-poetry.php3 Tell Kalimah Robbie and I sent you.
The show was easily one of my favorites of the tour. It was packed and the people were so generous and kind to us.
Prior to the show, Robbie and I met up with my old friend Zuriel at his work, the rad rock & bowl bar/pizzeria called Sgt. Pepperoni’s. Z reintroduced me to Kristin, a friend of his I’d apparently met in Ann Arbor some years back on another tour. Zuriel continued to work while Robbie and I got to know Kristin over coffees at the bar.
We had a good time all through the night and after the slam, including a stop at a casino for some food, where most of us lost our appetites due to an incredibly intoxicated gent who decided to cover his food and table with regurgitations that looked like well-noodled chicken soup.
It was a much needed trip: I reunited with Zuriel and got to make friends with Kristin. And Robbie dug them both, making two whole new friends on this leg of thr trip!
I lost about $35 at the slots, but hey, slots are for old people and I’m only now 31 years old. Big thanks to those of you who posted birthday pleasantries on my last blog.
I had so much fun here in Detroit. Robbie and I were asked to come back for a bigger show at the DSO by one of the managers. We’ll most certainly be back.

Now we head off to Toronto. David Silverberg, my homie from another mommy is planning a big birthday evening for me. I am so excited, and it will be Robbie’s first time back to Canada since his was a kid.
Should be dope.

Hey happy belated birthday. Hope it was fun
Weird, I must be off on your b-day, thought it was the 30th. Great to hear you’re doing well. Curious, how early should a poet trying to schedule their first tour start contacting slams? get back to me when you can.
