I had a great time in Chico. Great crowd. Moxie’s rules as a venue. One of the best cafe venues in the U.S. Turns out Joan Baez was performing at the same time down the street, but the local weekly rag chose me as the pick of the week. Sorry, Joan, but that’s dope!
Everyone had a good time. Even my BB. Love you, bud. It was good to be around Tazuo and the youth team. They ended up driving my sleepy ass back to San Jose yesterday morning.
The Chico Poetry Slam has a slew of potentially great poets, but the real skill lies within the Chico Speaks Out youth team. Isaac, Ulysses, Cara, Donovan and a few others. They have more stage and lyrical ability individually than most adult spoken word artists do. Listening to them practice in the van on the way home was inspiring–and they’re all still in high school. Cara runs and online zine for the group. I’ll post a link to it soon.

I took up a chance to meet Kelly Clarkson during my stay in Chico. She’s much cuter in person than I ever could’ve imagined.

If you haven’t performed in Chico yet, I highly recommend it.

nice hat!
awww.
That picture of you and Kelly Clarkson is adorable.
I totally agree about Chico. When I was featuring, Tazuo was out of town and Isaac and Ulysses hosted, I was blown away. I could never have done what they are doing when I was their age.
You and Kelly make a great couple.
Unfortunatly, I won’t be able to come to San Jose this weekend. But I hope the finals and your party are amazing. Hopefully we can visit again sometime soon.
THEIR VENUE IS CALLED MOXIE’S?!?!?!?!
Aww, Kelly is one lucky chinchilla.

when I’m good enough
when my poetry becomes within spitting distance of yours and i’m therefore good enough to go on tour, I’ll remember and try to get a show in chico. thanks for the advise.

That’s cute. Does it bite? I’ve never held/seen a chinchilla in person.
